It is an important gateway for travelers visiting Kingston, Portmore, Spanish Town, and eastern Jamaica. The airport also serves business travelers, returning residents, and visitors exploring Jamaica's cultural and historical attractions.

The airport is named after British author Ian Fleming, who lived in Jamaica and wrote the James Bond novels at his GoldenEye estate.

Its location makes it convenient for visitors heading toward Ocho Rios, Oracabessa, St. Mary, and nearby north-coast attractions.

Negril Aerodrome

Located in Orange Bay, Negril, the Negril Aerodrome provides convenient access to one of Jamaica’s most popular resort destinations. The facility is operated by the Airports Authority of Jamaica and supports domestic aviation. It operates under visual flight rules (VFR) and is open from 1200–2300 UTC, according to the AAJ. Ground transportation options include taxis, public transportation, and buses.
