The Glistening Waters Luminous Lagoon is a natural wonder located in Falmouth, Jamaica. It is a bioluminescent lagoon that is filled with microscopic organisms called dinoflagellates, which emit a blue-green light when they are agitated.
The lagoon is approximately 5 km in length and 200 meters wide, and its depth ranges from 1 to 12 meters. The water in the lagoon is completely still, which allows the dinoflagellates to thrive and create a spectacular display of light.
Visitors can take a boat tour of the lagoon at night, which is the best time to witness the bioluminescence. As the boat moves through the water, the dinoflagellates are agitated, creating a stunning display of bright blue-green light.
