Kingston Creative is a nonprofit arts organisation started in 2017 by a team of three co-founders who believe in using Art and Culture to achieve social and economic transformation. We want to see the city of Kingston leverage its creative heritage, its world-class talent and reach its potential to become a Creative City, not just in name or by UNESCO designation, but for this to be a reality for all who live in Kingston. We envision a safe and vibrant Art District in Downtown Kingston, a Creative Hub that develops and trains people, and long-term, a healthy creative ecosystem in Jamaica. We are a small, voluntary organisation, and we recognise that this is a huge vision, but it is certainly a vision worth working towards.
Tours
Walking
Join us for a stroll through the vibrant outdoor gallery on Water Lane and its adjoining streets. Birthed in 2018, this ever-expanding Art District now boasts dozens of stunning murals, each one telling its own story.
Art, Galleries, and Museums
Nestled in the financial and legal quarter of the City’s oldest district, Duke Street is replete with history. This street, running north-south in the traditional grid layout, enjoys a vista of the Kingston Harbour at its southern end.
Food
Delectable flavours are pleasantly complemented with anecdotes about the island’s history and the legends behind some of our culinary rituals. Plus, in-between tastings, you’ll get to learn more about Downtown’s intriguing history and architecture, including the bright art and cultural artifacts adorning this beautiful location.
Music
The Tour also includes a stop at the revered Trench Town Culture Yard where Bob Marley once lived, and where he co-wrote the hit song, “No Woman No Cry”, with his friend and mentor, Tarta. Today’s Culture Yard has a small museum depicting the history of Trench Town and showcasing instruments and artifacts used by Bob Marley, Peter Tosh and Bunny Wailer.
