Colbeck Castle

Hidden in the countryside of St. Catherine, just about two miles north of Old Harbour, stands the impressive remains of Colbeck Castle—one of Jamaica’s fascinating historic landmarks. Though the castle now lies in ruins, its massive stone and brick walls still stand close to their original height, offering a glimpse into Jamaica’s early colonial past.

A Castle Built in the 17th Century

Colbeck Castle is believed to have been built around 1680, during a period when England was establishing and defending its control of Jamaica. The structure is associated with John Colbeck, who came to Jamaica with the English forces in 1655 and later received a large land grant in the area.
